New research suggests that taking high amounts of vitamin D supplements may improve cognitive function in adults who are at risk of dementia.

A study of people 66 and older in skilled nursing facilities found that those who received the recombinant shingles vaccine (RZV, Shingrix) were less likely to be diagnosed with dementia over four years, though causation is not certain.
Researchers studied a genetic variant (APOE ε4) and white matter hyperintensities (WMH), a sign of small blood‑vessel damage. They found both factors raise dementia risk additively, and vascular health may be improved to lower that risk.
