Since the UN Food Systems Summit four years ago, the global community has made some progress in addressing food security. However, issues like conflict, climate change, and inequality continue to hinder these efforts. Countries like Ethiopia and Vietnam are implementing innovative programs aimed at improving nutrition and making food systems more resilient. For instance, Ethiopia focuses on enhancing livestock productivity and Viet Nam is integrating food systems into poverty reduction strategies.
Despite these initiatives, nearly 3 billion people lack access to healthy diets, which includes many smallholder farmers. This is compounded by financial constraints and declining international aid. Therefore, it is crucial for nations to embrace new financing models and collaborative approaches to agricultural development.
The food systems of different countries are interconnected, meaning that sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices can lead to mutual progress. The CGIAR Flagship Report 2025 aims to provide evidence-based strategies to aid in this transformation.
With persistent challenges, it is vital to support investment and collaboration in food systems to ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
