In Namibia, many people suffer from malnutrition due to insufficient protein in their diets. To address this issue, a project was initiated to train farmers in the Mayana community on the use of biofertilisers, which enhance crop yields. This initiative aims to improve agricultural productivity and nutritional health.
Farmers like Natilia Rengi have reported increased production since adopting these methods, which allow them to feed their families better. Around 30 farmers have received training in crop production and the use of five biofertilisers developed by researchers. These biofertilisers improve soil health and support the growth of protein-rich crops.
The project also aims to combat child malnutrition by providing alternative nutrition sources amid growing food security challenges. By 2025, the project hopes to ensure better access to nutritious food and promote sustainable farming practices among local communities.
