Panic attacks are sudden episodes of strong fear or anxiety. They often begin quickly and peak within minutes. Common signs include chest pain, quick heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating, trembling, nausea and dizziness. They can happen after stress or without any clear trigger.

A heart attack happens when blood flow to part of the heart is blocked. Symptoms include chest pressure, pain that may go to the jaw or arm, shortness of breath, cold sweats and nausea. Panic symptoms usually fade within 20 to 60 minutes, while heart attack symptoms last longer and need medical care. If symptoms do not improve, call 9-1-1 immediately.
