Researchers developed a tiny fiber probe that can measure three key molecules at the same time: glucose, lactate and ethanol. The probe uses mid‑infrared light to detect each molecule by its light absorption. This allows faster, near‑real‑time readings without taking many fluid samples.

Current methods often collect fluid for later lab analysis, which takes time. The new probe is minimally invasive and could be used in hospitals or adapted for personal wellness monitoring. A patent application has been filed for future industry use.
