In Mile Four, Bamenda, residents face long and unpredictable electricity outages from the national grid. Officials say technical problems and lower water at hydro stations have reduced power and led to rationing.
In mid-January 2026 neighbours pooled money to buy a community transformer. Many households also installed decentralized solar systems to get light and run small appliances. Local sellers report that solar panels are becoming cheaper and technicians say Bamenda’s strong sunlight suits solar setups.
