Nigeria sits between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara, so the south gets heavy rain and the far north is drier and hotter. This location causes big differences in rainfall and temperature across the country.
Flooding is the main climate disaster. In 2024 floods across Nigeria caused 280 deaths, 2,504 injuries, the destruction of 122,330 homes, damage to 17,000 acres of farmland, and about 641,500 people were displaced. Floods reduce farm output and harm livelihoods.
Agriculture still provides over 31 percent of GDP in the third quarter of 2025. Groups like Green Quest and the government are working on local solutions, but more action and public involvement are needed.
