Researchers presented several AI tools at the Union World Conference on Lung Health in Copenhagen (18–21 November). TB caused about 1.25 million deaths in 2024 and many communities lack easy access to standard diagnostics, so cheaper and portable tools could help.

One team used breath analysis with "breathomics" and machine learning, collecting breath samples with an AveloMask from around 60 TB patients in South Africa. Another team used a cough platform called Swaasa and recorded coughs from more than 350 participants with a smartphone. The cough AI identified conditions correctly in 94% of cases and predicted risk in 87%.

Other tools mapped vulnerability and a chest X‑ray tool called qXR works for children from birth to 15 years. Some results are under peer review and need further validation before wide use.
