Researchers used artificial intelligence to identify a viral protein called OPG153 that many antibodies bind. Laboratory tests and mouse studies confirmed the finding, which could help develop cheaper vaccines or antibody treatments.

Marburg outbreak in Kigali, Rwanda

In July 2024 Rwanda detected its first Marburg outbreak in Kigali, starting among health workers. Authorities and the WHO led a fast response with genomic tests and treatments; most confirmed cases recovered and the outbreak ended in November.
