On July 14, 2025 the West Indies were dismissed for 27 in the final Test against Australia, the second‑lowest total in Test history. The side lost all three matches in the series and the result triggered widespread anger and calls for sustained reform across the Caribbean.
Immediate reaction came from former players and administrators. Carl Hooper said he was "angry and upset" and argued Daren Sammy — who serves as head coach and is the only selector — must be held accountable. Andy Roberts demanded resignations from senior leadership, saying "The Director of Cricket should walk, the President should walk, the coach should walk." Jeffery Dujon said he did not believe Sammy "is the man for the job" while he carries all three‑format coaching responsibilities and the sole selector role.
Cricket West Indies said it would take remedial action and invited Clive Lloyd, Viv Richards and Brian Lara to join a Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee chaired by Enoch Lewis, with existing members Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes and Ian Bradshaw. Brian Lara said CWI had not "done anything meaningful to keep players loyal to West Indies cricket," noting Nicholas Pooran's abrupt retirement at 29 and the lure of multiple lucrative franchise leagues.
On the field, Australian bowlers dominated: Mitchell Starc took six wickets for nine runs in 7.3 overs and Scott Boland took three wickets for two runs, including a hat‑trick. Observers praised bowling coach Ravi Rampaul for rebuilding a potent attack. Political matters complicated the crisis: CWI president Kishore Shallow is a New Democratic Party candidate opposing St Vincent's prime minister Ralph Gonzalves, who on July 16 called for the entire CWI board to resign. SportsMax will close on August 8 and founder Chris Dehring said, "Everything has its time." The region now faces uncertainty as calls grow for structural reform.
