Samovar Gatherings Revive Bashkir Youth TraditionsCEFR A2

Youth in Bashkiria have shown renewed interest in Bashkir language and culture. Many study the language online, visit home villages and join public gatherings called ritaiym.
Samauryly Ritaiym began informally along the Agidel River five years ago and a new season now runs in Ufa. The first gathering on June 17, 2020 had no more than 15 people. Meetings are held every other Wednesday evening by the river. Volunteers bring a large samovar, a small stage and sometimes a bonfire. Musicians play the kurai and people share foods like chak-chak, kumis and beshbarmak.
