Africa has many ocean and lake resources that are still underused. The continent has many coastal and island states and a long coastline. Most African trade happens by sea and fishing gives food and work to many people.

The documentary "Africa’s Blue Pride: The Rise of the Indian Ocean" was made by David Casimir. The film looks at opportunities in Mauritius and Madagascar and talks to coastal communities, scientists, policymakers and young people. It also says islands can help Africa produce more seafood.

Experts think the blue economy could create many jobs if countries develop it. Some rules and protection areas exist, but problems remain such as illegal fishing, pollution and weak monitoring. People call for local, science-based governance to protect the ocean and support jobs.
