The Zenica School of Comics began during the 1992-95 war. Adnadin Jašarević, who runs the city museum, started it to give children a creative escape from hunger, fear and shelling.
Since then the school trained around 200 young artists. About 70 became prominent authors. An average of ten students pass through the school each year. The school produced publications such as Horostop, ZE strip, EKO strip and SUV – Steps in Time. Tablets make drawing faster, but artists worry about new AI tools that create images and stories. Comics are now harder to find in newsstands, yet festivals, workshops and regional cooperation help the scene continue.
