A team of researchers reviewed 18 randomized trials that tested positive psychology programs. Each trial had between 50 and 200 participants. Programs used apps, text messages and journaling, and they combined weekly sessions with daily activities at home.

The researchers found short-term heart benefits when people did the exercises often, usually every day for eight to twelve weeks. In some trials people lowered their blood pressure by about 7 to 8 points and added about 1,800 steps per day. The lead author studies digital health and older adults and plans a program using augmented reality to support movement and give real-time feedback.
