The study, led by the SNF Agora Institute and Public Agenda, combined a national survey of 4,500 Americans with earlier polling and three Republican focus groups. Researchers identified three groups within the Republican Party: Trump-first (29%), Constitution-first (34%) and party-first (36%).
The report finds broad concern about democracy: 84% say it is in crisis or facing serious challenges, and only 11% say it is doing well. Trust in elections is fragile: one-third say federal elections are not free and fair, while 59% say local elections are fair. Views of the 2020 election remain divided across parties.
