Media representatives from low- and middle-income countries raised concerns at the Belt and Road Journalists Forum in Ganzhou, China, saying AI-generated content can increase political and religious tensions. The forum was organised by the All-China Journalists Association and drew over 100 delegates from more than 50 countries.
Delegates urged the Chinese journalists group to work together to pressure technology platforms. One clear request was for Facebook and similar services to label AI-produced content consistently. Aditta Kittikhoun, a Laos journalists representative and co-founder of the RDK Group, said on 18 July that her country has not yet seen the labelling in practice.
A Meta oversight board report in June said enforcement of the labelling policy is inconsistent and recommended labels be available in local languages. Forum speakers also proposed verified marks for reputable content and limiting the reach of publishers who break community rules.
