Zeynep Sönmez reached the third round at Wimbledon and became the first Turkish player to do this at the tournament. Her performance also moved her up in the WTA live rankings, to a higher position.
She won her first WTA singles title in Merida in 2024, which helped her confidence and let her play in the main draw at Roland Garros for the first time. Social media in Turkey followed her Wimbledon matches and local leaders sent congratulations.
