Groups across Latin America build open, local AI systems to study and reduce gender inequality and violence. In Argentina, Ivana Feldfeber founded DataGénero and her team created AymurAI, a programme that searches court documents for information about gender-based violence.
AymurAI is on local servers to protect security and confidentiality. It has collected material from more than 10,000 court rulings and has been used in Argentina, Chile and Costa Rica since 2021. Funders include the IDRC and the Patrick McGovern Foundation. Teams plan to add audio-to-text to preserve testimonies and to anonymise sensitive details like addresses.
