Global Voices maintains a close relationship with Nepalese culture and people and relies on many longtime contributors from Nepal to report on Nepali languages, art, literature, history, politics and news. The organisation also collaborates with Nepali media; one of its closest partners is The Nepali Times. Kathmandu hosted the Global Voices 2024 summit, where delegates met for two days of connection, collaboration and conversation with journalists, activists, technologists and others from around the world.
Longtime supporter Nathan Matias (Nate) decided to take on an Everest Roam cycling challenge to support Global Voices' fundraising. The Everest Roam asks riders to climb more than 10,000 metres (32,809 feet) in less than 36 hours and to cover at least 400 kilometres (248 miles). Nate undertook the journey specifically to help the organisation reach its fundraising target.
Global Voices set a goal of USD 250,000 to fund continuing cross‑border reporting, translation and work that supports underrepresented communities — work the organisation says it has carried out for the past 20 years. To encourage Nate on his ride, members of the Nepalese community created a Nepali‑language playlist for him and an additional playlist for supporters. These musical gestures form part of broader community support, intended to boost morale during the demanding ride and to show solidarity. The ride and the fundraising campaign are connected, and further updates about the playlists, the ride and the campaign may follow as it continues.
